Hey everybody,
So, as you might’ve heard already, I wrote and directed a movie last year, and it’s coming out later this year. Which is absolutely crazy, and I still kinda can’t believe it. Anyway, I’m posting this today to let you all know that I’m changing its title. It’s now called… DON JON. I decided to change it, first of all, because DON JON is just so short and simple, and if you know me, you know I’m a fan of brevity. Second of all, it felt to me like the old title, “Don Jon’s Addiction” was throwing some people off a bit from the point of the movie. People were assuming it was a film about porn addiction and sex addiction, which really isn’t true. That’d be sort of like saying “The Maltese Falcon” is a movie about a statue of a falcon. DON JON is a comedy about how men and women treat each other, and how the media we consume can create unrealistic expectations that we put on one another. That’s why the story centers around a relationship between a young man (played by me) who watches too much pornography and a young woman (played by Scarlett) who watches too many romantic Hollywood movies. It’s a topic I personally find fascinating and hilarious.
And while I have your attention, I figured I’d show you the first production still we’re releasing of Jon’s father, played by none other than Tough Tony Danza. More to show soon. We’re just starting to work on the trailer now. And I’m heading down to SxSW with Tony this weekend with the film, so I’ll see some of you in Austin!

Can I take a moment to tell you all about something amazing? In recent years, the place of trans women in pornography has been a topic of hot debate within trans communities, and a site of some awesome activism. Some of this activism has included Tobi Hill-Meyer’s seminal Doing it Ourselves: Trans Women Porn Project, which featured queer trans women in a feminist porn context. That movie brought a lot of issues around transmisogyny to light, and queer trans women have been making serious inroads into the feminist porn world as a result.
But what about straight trans women? So often trans activism focuses on one specific trans experience: that of a mostly white, exclusively queer kind of trans person. Straight trans women have been left out of the conversation. And when we talk about straight trans woman porn, we can see only typical tranny and shemale porn produced for a cis male gaze.
Well, legendary feminist pornographer Nica Noelle has changed that. She has started a new studio called Trans Romantic that creates porn specifically catering to the desires of straight trans women and other trans women who like cis men. This is stuff made for a trans woman’s gaze. The first title in this series, Forbidden Lovers, has a plotline about a cis man taking his trans woman girlfriend home to meet his parents, before she’s disclosed being trans. When she does disclose, they have amazing and hot sex! The non-sex parts are super cute and really romantic and lovely. Dreamy!
The great thing about this is that the men are really hot! Tranny and shemale porn are stigmatized industries, meaning that male performers often won’t be able to return to straight or gay porn if they do tranny or shemale porn, and that results in usually really unattractive/boring guys doing it with super babely trans ladies. Nica Noelle has found REALLY HOT GUYS who are excited to be part of these films! This is a big deal in the porn world.
I absolutely loved Forbidden Lovers, and I’m not even straight. Want to support things for trans women and not just your tiny bubble of acceptably queer ones? SUPPORT TRANS ROMANTIC!!
Edited to add: Also! These movies are produced with plotlines that show trans women as not only objects of desire, but SUBJECTS OF LOVING RELATIONSHIPS. That is hugely revolutionary.

Straight trans women with only cis men? Sounds a bit shady to me.
Why?
It erases trans men.
It sets up a view that straight trans women only want to date and/or have sex with cis males
It sets up a view that trans men are lesser and “not male”
It sets up the view that when trans women are with trans men, trans women are somehow not straight
It may be a step in the right direction; but it’s still oppressive to the trans* population, and thus the entire population as a whole. So is it really that positive of a thing?Shut the fuck up. It is blatantly transmisogynistic to attack an incredibly rare positive and healthy representation of trans women in porn by trying to center trans men, especially given that trans men are already well represented — indeed, substantially over represented — in ethically made porn. Double especially in light of the fact that said representation comes explicitly at the expense of trans women; it comes from trans men ruthlessly leveraging transmisogyny in order to hijack to “by and for lesbian” porn while at the same time locking trans women out of it.
So no, this is not problematic in a way that privilege-laden trans men or their allies have any right to call out. You don’t ever get to “call out” those whom you are privileged over for their self-care responses to your oppression against them! And yes, it really is that positive of a thing.
Preach.
Person above, there’s an entire site devoted to trans guys: FTMfucker. And that’s not the only one. Check them out sometime. Trans Romantic is amazing in that it’s going for a trans-positive perspective and it’s coming from within the mainstream porn industry. That’s a very big deal, even if it’s not 100% perfect to everyone’s liking. I want positive trans representation to spread into every genre of every part of the porn industry, and in every other media space, until it’s everywhere.
Since it’s coming from the mainstream it’s a little inconsistent (for instance, the site itself uses more respectful language, but the ads on the sidebar don’t). I’ll take sincere-if-not-completely-fitting-my-politics attempts over blatantly invalidating tr***y porn any day. The more outlets trans performers have for positive representation, the less they have to put up with invalidating bullshit in order to get paid. Considering trans women lose job prospects post-transition, whereas trans men often receive more pay and prestige, yeah, this is really important, as porn for a lot of trans women is the way to make a living.
In the bigger picture, if this trend continues, it will make it easier to bridge the gap between the mainstream/straight world of porn and queer porn, which is also a big deal. Right now there’s an economic and political divide between trans women performers in mainstream porn and those in queer porn. I want that gap to be bridged so we can build solidarity, even with differences in politics. Solidarity is what gets us power.
(While were at it, I’d like to remind everyone that there’s an FTM focused site that appropriates the t-slur, when it’s not a word for trans men to reclaim. Direct your outrage there.)
